What is the problem you are solving?

The digital environment of commercial buildings is scattered and very complicated. As a result, stakeholders in building operations lose many opportunities in employee productivity and energy efficiency.

What is the solution you provide? How is it unique?

w_fb_profile-whiteWe believe that a new way of storing, analysing and interacting with building information, common for all stakeholders involved is needed. A way that introduces a social approach to building operations by leveraging the power of IoT and social networks.

Wapo.io is a Building Operations Platform for sustainable enterprises and their service providers. Using conversational UX as the common interface for all stakeholders, the platform helps customers increase productivity, transparency and energy efficiency in their buildings.

When and how did your company story start?

It started as part of another venture in Greece where we were doing Building Services. The idea first in 2014 was to create a collaboration tool for energy management in order to engage technical teams.

What happened so far? What are the milestones that you have reached?

Last February we were selected to Rockstart to join the Smart Energy Accelerator program and that’s where our vision of conversational building operations became a reality. We are currently working on our next milestone which is to release the first complete module of the wapoBOT by the end of the year

What are your next goals?

Our main goal now is to get started commercially in the Netherlands.

My co-founder is my brother Timos and together we had been running a successful Building Services company. Therefore we are at a stage that we communicate and function very well together. On the development side we have 3 people, Fani (CTO), Michalis (Data), Marina (IoT) who have great complementary skills and are very open and willing to engage on the business side of things.

What makes you rocket?

Our rocket fuel is our commitment and creativity.

What was the biggest difficulty in your business that you had to cope with so far? What are the areas that are the hardest to handle as a startup?

Our industry is really fragmented and hard to pick up innovation fast. That is the source of our difficulties. As a start-up the hardest thing to handle is the resource balance between customers and fundraising.

How do you see the startup ecosystem in your region?

We consider ourselves belonging in two ecosystems. The Greek one, where we started and the Netherlands where we are now based. The differences are big as Greece is facing a very long austerity period that innovation comes from personal sacrifices. In the Netherlands the support is much more mature and the ecosystem is very vivid and evolving each single day.
